Marcum promoted to start for Indians (The Associated Press)

CHICAGO (AP) -- Right-hander Shaun Marcum has been brought up from the minor leagues by the Cleveland Indians to start against the Chicago White Sox.

The 33-year-old's contract was selected Wednesday from Triple-A Columbus, and his start Wednesday night was his first in the major leagues since July 6, 2013, for the New York Mets against Milwaukee. He allowed six runs - five earned - in five innings, then went on the disabled list with thoracic outlet syndrome and had right shoulder surgery that July 15.

Marcum had nine minor league appearances last year and returned to the major leagues on April 12, when he allowed one run in a five-inning relief appearance for the Indians against Detroit.
