It is a good thing the Mets don’t play in the American League.
For when it comes to designated hitters, right now they have none, certainly not on their bench and hardly any in what constitutes their everyday lineup. Their best hitters are their pitchers, who would be totally wasted in the American League. Presently, they’re only half-wasted as this torturous brand of “zero tolerance” baseball concluded its six-game run at Citi Field in which the Mets scored two or fewer runs in five of them. Actually, that makes 12 out of the last 14 games of such futility now.
