Now we know why the Mets don’t want to call up Michael Conforto. He’ll only get hurt.
The latest Met injury that threatens to torpedo their season — Steven Matz somehow tearing his lat muscle either before, during or after dominating the Dodgers with consistent 92-95 mph stuff over six shutout innings last Sunday — is, without doubt, the most maddening of all for this snakebit organization. How does this happen? Tom Seaver never had a lat injury. Jerry Koosman never had a lat injury. Doc Gooden, Ron Darling, Bobby Ojeda or even Fat Sid Fernandez never had a lat injury and none of them were on innings and pitch-count limitations.
