They were in the small holding area near the Mets dugout at Citi Field, some of them about to throw ceremonial first pitches before the Mets’ home opener. These were the families of Officer Rafael Ramos and Officer Wenjian Liu, shot dead in Brooklyn the week before Christmas in the service of their city.
Liu's widow, Pei Xia (Sanny) Chen, was there, and the officer’s parents were there. So was Maritza Ramos and her two sons, Justin and Jaden, and other members of her family. The mayor of the city, Bill de Blasio, was there as well.
