Seth Lugo has a partial tear of the UCL in his right elbow and will rest for roughly two weeks before beginning a throwing program, the Mets announced Tuesday.
Surgery remains a possibility for Lugo, the team said, depending on the results of the platelet-rich plasma injection Lugo received, and how his throwing program goes.
If Lugo needs Tommy John surgery, the recovery time would be 12-to-18 months.
It's unclear when the tear occurred, but a source told Anthony DiComo of MLB.com that Lugo might have been pitching through it last summer.
