Loney has been great in the field

Mets infielders and pitchers should be thankful James Loney is at first base. He's played very well in the field since joining their team in early June.

Last night, in the ninth inning, the Mets up a run with the bases loaded and no outs, Loney threw home on Matt Szczur's fielder's choice to get a key out. He then made a terrific scoop on a ball in the dirt from Neil Walker to complete a game-ending double play.

This past weekend, he made a calm and accurate throw home to peg a runner taking an extra base; he had a terrific pick up off a ball in the dirt, thrown by Jacob deGrom on a bunt up the third base line; and he snagged a hard-hit ground ball to his right, sliding smoothly to catch it then make a clean throw to deGrom for the inning's first out.
