Second baseman L.J. Mazzilli has been promoted to the Double-A Binghamton Mets.
Drafted out of the University of Connecticut in the fourth round in 2013, 24-year-old Mazzilli split 2014 between Savannah, where he hit .292/.363/.428 and St. Lucie, where he hit .312/.363/.456. He also played one game in Triple-A Las Vegas after St. Lucie's season ended, going 1-for-5 with a strikeout. He spent the fall in the Arizona Fall League with the Scottsdale Scorpions, hitting .306/.433/.469.
Mazzilli, son of former Met Lee Mazzilli, was suspended for the first 50 games of the 2015 season for a second positive test of a "drug of abuse," though not a performance-enhancing drug.
