ST. LOUIS — Pete Alonso would not reveal what went through his mind when he got hit by a pitch on the right hand Saturday afternoon.
“Because it would be bleeped out,” Alonso said.
But the rookie Mets first baseman appears to have avoided disaster. Postgame X-rays were “absolutely negative,” he reported after a 10-2 loss to the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
Alonso has broken his left hand three times in his career, so he anxiously awaited the results before breathing a sigh of relief.
“X-rays don’t lie, so I’m really thankful that it caught me in a perfect spot, so to speak,” Alonso said with ice wrapped around his right hand.
