Late Mets owner’s championship ring heads to auction

Championship sports rings, art and rare writings from late Mets owner Nelson Doubleday Jr. are scheduled to go up for auction in New York on Wednesday.

Doubleday’s 2000 National League championship ring could go for between $8,000 and $12,000 at the Doyle’s Upper East Side headquarters during an auction that’s set to begin at 10 a.m.

His ring from the Islanders’ 1982 Stanley Cup title is also on sale and expected to go for between $6,000 and $8,000.

Doubleday — the great-great nephew of mythical early baseball figure Abner Doubleday — was 81 when he died in 2015.
