ATLANTA — Kelly Johnson can borrow the nickname “Magic” if he keeps producing in this manner for the Mets.
For an encore following his game-tying homer against the Nationals’ Stephen Strasburg on Wednesday, the veteran utilityman delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the ninth inning Saturday in the Mets’ 6-4 victory over the Braves.
“Playoff team and playoff push and we’re in first place,” Johnson said. “For me, in terms of where I’m at in my career, anything that can contribute to getting to a World Series is what it’s all about.”
Johnson enjoyed the fact this latest big hit came against the team that traded him on July 24.
