MIAMI — Kevin Plawecki’s left hand was red and swollen — but not broken — giving the Mets an added level of comfort on Wednesday night after they completed their three-game sweep of the Marlins.
On the same day Travis d’Aranud was diagnosed with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow that could require Tommy John surgery, losing another catcher for an extended period would have been a gut punch.
Plawecki was drilled in the hand by a pitch from Tayron Guerrero to start the Mets’ comeback in the eighth. Plawecki remained in the game, but was replaced by Tomas Nido as a pinch hitter when his turn came around again later in the inning.
