Josh Edgin begins rehab assignment with St. Lucie

NEW YORK -- Left-handed reliever Josh Edgin allowed one run while recording two outs for Class St. Lucie on Sunday as he began a rehab assignment with the Florida State League club.

Edgin allowed a walk, single and sacrifice fly before departing the opening inning with two outs in Jupiter, Florida. He threw 27 pitches.

The New York Mets estimate that Edgin will be ready to return to the majors near May 1.

Edgin underwent Tommy John surgery on March 17, 2015.

He opened the season on the disabled list along with right-hander Zack Wheeler, who also is recovering from Tommy John surgery performed the same month.
