NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — For the Mets, 2016 was a season that might be best remembered for how many players got hurt. As a result, the team is looking to increase the versatility of its roster as a way to compensate when players are injured in 2017 and end up sidelined.
One idea along those lines is to give the veteran infielder Jose Reyes a turn in center field in spring training.
Reyes, 33, a longtime shortstop who played third base in the major leagues for the first time last season, has never played the outfield in the majors or the minors.
