Johan Santana, who hasn't pitched in the Major Leagues since 2012, is attempting a comeback, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports (Dec. 8).
Santana, 36, was acquired by the Mets via trade prior to the 2008 season. His tenure with the Mets, while successful when healthy, was derailed by injuries. Santana tore his left shoulder capsule in 2010, causing him to miss the 2011 season. On June 1, 2012 Santana threw a no-hitter against the St. Louis Cardinals, becoming the first pitcher in franchise history to do so.
After throwing a career-high 134 pitches to complete the no-hitter, his season, and career, took a turn for the worse.
