That’s probably because the Mets have seen Meneses quite often over the last three years, as the journeyman finally broke through with the Washington Nationals in his rookie season in 2022. That year, Meneses hit .324/.367/.563 with 13 home runs in 56 games, good for a 158 wRC+ and enough to land him the starting role as the designated hitter for the last-place Nationals the following year.
