PORT ST. LUCIE — On the day the Mets’ pitchers and catchers officially reported to work, a symbolic milestone for this charged-up season, Jeurys Familia spoke like a man who ain’t got time to grieve.
“Everybody knows what happened,” the Mets’ closer said Wednesday at Tradition Field, after completing a brief workout. “It’s tough for me because he’s my friend. He’s still my friend. I don’t know what he’s [thinking], but everybody knows when you do something wrong, you’ve got to pay for it.”
The right-hander was speaking, you probably deduced, of Jenrry Mejia, who owned the role of Mets closer a year ago at this time and managed to since fail three tests for illegal performance-enhancing drugs, earning a lifetime suspension from Major League Baseball last week.
