The Mets once again failed to take advantage of a game against the Marlins, as they opened their three-game series against the worst team in the National League with an uninspiring loss. Miami won 4-2 in the end, and the Mets’ lineup really only showed signs of life in a two-run second inning that temporarily put them ahead.
Tylor Megill was good until he wasn’t in his start. Through four innings, he had thrown 60 pitches and allowed just one run. It took him 27 pitches to record two outs in a top of the fifth that saw him give up two runs, one of which is considered unearned—at least for now—as the result of a throw to first base that went well wide by Mark Vientos—following a great pick to prevent a double down the line—with two outs in the fifth.
