Jeff Wilpon doesn’t want to hear about the Mets’ payroll ranking.
The Mets COO broke his public silence Wednesday, answering questions from reporters at Citi Field, and payroll was a major topic.
The Mets payroll spiked at $155 million last season, but general manager Sandy Alderson has provided indications throughout the offseason that number will likely drop in 2018.
Wilpon was non-commital on the subject, saying he is not concerned that the big-market Mets will likely rank in the middle of the pack in payroll for this coming season.
“I would rather look at what we can do in terms of wins and losses,” Wilpon said.
