CHICAGO — Jeff McSuperman to the rescue.
The Mets have been a disappointment on several levels to this point, but Jeff McNeil, their second-year super-utility scrapper, is among the few players exceeding expectations.
Friday afternoon it was McNeil with the biggest swings and the Mets bullpen for the save in a 5-4 victory over the Cubs at Wrigley Field that snapped a two-game skid.
McNeil homered in the third and drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh on a day when Brooks Pounders and Seth Lugo came up huge in relief behind Jason Vargas before Edwin Diaz got the final three outs.
