The Mets have decided to extend Jed Lowrie’s rehab assignment, at least through the weekend.
A club source indicated before the decision that there was a possibility Lowrie would remain at Triple-A Syracuse at least through the weekend to receive additional at-bats in his rehab assignment. Lowrie was only 1-for-16 (.063) for Syracuse and 2-for-23 (.087) combined for Single-A St. Lucie and Syracuse during his rehab assignment.
Once the switch-hitting Lowrie returns, he is expected to become the team’s primary third baseman, with slumping Todd Frazier coming off the bench. Frazier will still receive occasional starts at third base and first base, according to general manager Brodie Van Wagenen.
