After spending the majority of Spring Training away from the baseball field, Jed Lowrie began throwing and hitting programs this week according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. He has been unable to participate in any baseball activities after suffering a sprained left knee capsule.
Lowrie was diagnosed with the injury in late February and has yet to appear in a spring training game. Despite beginning baseball activities this week, it remains unlikely that Lowrie will be ready to join the New York Mets for Opening Day on March 28. Instead, it is believed Jeff McNeil will begin the season as the starting third basemen if Lowrie is unavailable.
