After taking the opener, the Mets sealed a series victory over the Padres with a 5-1 win where they held San Diego to just two hits.
It was another combined strong pitching effort by the Mets staff. José Quintana got the start and was the latest Met who put forth a desperately needed positive outing. One day after Sean Manaea was solid on the mound, Quintana pitched six innings, struck out six, and gave up just one run. Like Manaea before him his only run came off the bat of Jackson Merrill who went deep for a second straight game.
