Jay Bruce will travel home to Texas after Wednesday's game to be with his wife for the birth of their second child.
Bruce will be placed on paternity leave, and plans to miss all three games of the Mets' weekend series against the Phillies in Philadelphia.
The Mets, who will call someone up to replace Bruce while he's on paternity leave, do not have any outfielders on the 40-man roster.
