The highly entertaining portion of the busiest day of the Mets’ year was studying social media in the seconds after it was announced the team had reacquired left-handed pitcher/pariah Jon Niese, and picturing Mets fans arming themselves with lanterns and pitchforks, slathering war paint on their faces, fury filling their souls, preparing to storm the gates at Citi Field …
… until they discovered, a few tweets later, that while Niese was indeed coming, it was Antonio Bastardo who was going. At which point they melded as one into Emily Litella, the old Gilda Radner character on “Saturday Night Live,” and then said meekly, as one: “Never mind.
