Jason Vargas leaves early as Mets’ problems keep growing

It only gets worse for the Mets.

Jason Vargas, who was set to be tasked with pitching essentially until he couldn’t anymore a day after the Mets’ 18-inning, bullpen-depleting loss, left the Mets’ game in Milwaukee after four innings and 50 pitches with mild hamstring tightness, the team announced.

Vargas, who has been pitching better, allowed three runs in the shortened Sunday outing. Tim Peterson, who was called up after Saturday’s marathon, relieved the left-hander.
