James Loney tipped to play over Lucas Duda in Mets must-win

It was just over four months ago that James Loney was playing at Triple-A for the Padres and was acquired by the Mets as a temporary fill-in at first base with Lucas Duda out with a back injury.

Now, in the Mets’ biggest game of the season, Loney is expected to take Duda’s spot again.

Manager Terry Collins wouldn’t reveal who will start at first base in Wednesday’s National League wild-card game against the Giants, but Loney was optimistic he would earn the nod over Duda.

“I have a good feeling about [it],” Loney said during the team’s workout Tuesday at Citi Field.
