After two straight performances that were simply for de birds, a certain Mets right-hander snapped back into form Wednesday.
This time Jacob deGrom stuck it to the Birds. DeGrom’s fastball hummed, but his offspeed pitches were equally precise, keeping the Orioles off balance for seven innings.
With deGrom in control, the Mets rolled to a 5-1 victory at Citi Field to complete a two-game series sweep and looked their sharpest since emerging bloodied from the Subway Series in late April.
The Mets (18-10) have consecutive victories for the first time since their ballyhooed 11-game winning streak and can enjoy Thursday’s day off before starting a three-game series in Philadelphia with ace Matt Harvey on the mound.
