PORT ST. LUCIE – Jacob deGrom probably ordered a new mattress too late.
The Mets scratched the right-hander from Monday’s scheduled spring start in Lakeland against the Tigers due to back stiffness. It was not immediately apparent when deGrom would make his next start, but he said he intended to throw a bullpen session Monday instead.
And he blamed his bed.
“I over-nighted a new bed last week, so I had to switch it up and that seemed to work,” said deGrom, who explained his old mattress was too soft and a new firm version has “seemed to make a difference.
