CHICAGO - It was not exactly the beginning of an era the Mets were hoping for.
With three of their young, power pitchers - Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Matt Harvey - scheduled to start this series against the up-and-coming Cubs, the Mets were thinking the dawn of a new era would begin Monday.
But by the end of the night they could only hope that it gets started on Tuesday with Syndergaard.
DeGrom struggled early and the Mets could not recover in a 4-3 loss at Wrigley Field.
The Mets (20-12) rallied within a run on back-to-back home runs from Lucas Duda and Wilmer Flores off Jon Lester in the sixth inning.
