Jose Iglesias homered off Edwin Diaz in the ninth inning to give the visiting Cincinnati Reds a 1-0 victory over the Mets on Wednesday night.

The loss came after the Mets’ ace, Jacob deGrom, had somewhat rediscovered his Cy Young form, throwing seven shutout innings of three-hit ball. DeGrom, the National League’s top pitcher of 2018, had started the year with back-to-back quality starts — tying Bob Gibson’s major league record with 26 straight going back to last year — but then reeled off three consecutive losses heading into Wednesday.

As was often the case last season, his teammates weren’t able to give him any support, leaving him with nothing to show for a dominant effort.
