Jacob deGrom outduels Clayton Kershaw as Mets take Game 1

METS 3, DODGERS 1

LOS ANGELES – Jacob deGrom does not possess the hardware or the resume of Clayton Kershaw. What the Mets’ breakout hurler already has in his burgeoning pitching career is as many postseason wins as the three-time Cy Young Award winner.

DeGrom was as deGrominant as he’s been all season — and precisely at the right time — trading strikeouts with Kershaw but ultimately outdueling him to help the Mets swipe Game 1 of the NL division series on the road with a 3-1 victory over the Dodgers.

In the Mets’ first postseason series since the 2006 NLCS, rookie hammer-thrower Noah Syndergaard will try to do the same against Cy Young hopeful Zack Greinke in Game 2 at Dodger Stadium on Saturday night — with Matt Harvey readying for his first career playoff start on Monday at Citi Field.
