WASHINGTON — The New York bias is nowhere to be found in this All-Star Game. However, Jacob deGrom and Luis Severino have got the “second starting pitcher” assignment going for them, which is nice.
The Mets’ ace deGrom, especially, and the Yankees’ ace Severino both made strong cases to start Tuesday night’s Midsummer Classic at Nationals Park, yet the honors instead went to the Nationals’ Max Scherzer and the Red Sox’s Chris Sale, who will face off in this exhibition for the second straight year. Sale will make his third consecutive start for the American League, the first pitcher with such a streak since future Hall of Famer Robin Roberts started for the National League from 1953-55.
