Jacob deGrom gets record raise in arbitration

Jacob deGrom’s historic season with the Mets has wrought a payout just as impressive.

The National League Cy Young award winner avoided arbitration with the team on Friday by agreeing to a one-year contract for 2019 worth $17 million, according to an industry source. It’s a record increase for an arbitration-eligible player. Last season deGrom earned $7.4 million.

DeGrom finished last season with a major-league best 1.70 ERA and set a record with 24 straight quality starts.

With deGrom’s contract for next season settled, the two sides are expected to explore a long-term deal. The 30-year-old righty remains under club control through 2020.
