PHILADELPHIA — With all the commotion about the number of home runs the Mets have hit lately, including a record number for a single month in franchise history (43 and counting), it’s easy to forget how important defense is to the sport.
The Mets and Phillies offered a reminder Thursday night at Citizens Bank Park in what turned out to be a battle of leather more than lumber.
Daniel Murphy would help end things in the 13th inning with a two-run double that keyed a four-run inning and gave the Mets a 9-5 victory and a sweep of the four-game series.
