Let’s play a not-so-fun game: let’s list all the effective relievers the Mets have developed from their farm system in recent times. It shouldn’t take you very long because the list is exceptionally small. If we go back a decade or so, we can name Jeurys Familia and Seth Lugo—both of whom are long gone. Drew Smith (acquired in a trade but having spent his entire major league career with the Mets) has been okay when healthy and is now back in the organization after re-signing as a free agent, but he’s out for the season due to Tommy John surgery.
If healthy, Dedniel Núñez can be a huge part of the Mets’ bullpen in 2025 and beyond
