I … I Believe In … I Believe In Steven Matz

It’s hard not to see pitching performances like we saw from Noah Syndergaard on Friday and Steven Matz on Sunday and not think that this could be the next Gooden, Darling, Fernandez, Ojeda, and Cone. But this isn’t 1988 where the Mets could have a staff five deep (which they lucked into when Cone all of a sudden went from dud to stud), and where they didn’t have to trade one of them to get a bat because the franchise was competent and rich enough to have a lineup with Keith Hernandez and Gary Carter in it. Unfortunately, there’s no Keith Hernandez or Gary Carter deal out there to be had, as there are no Rick Ownbeys or Floyd Youmanses floating around in the system.
