Mike Breen’s night job is getting in the way of his first love.
The MSG and ESPN play-by-play man’s regular season started Wednesday night with the Thunder’s thrilling 106-102 win over the Spurs in Oklahoma City. But the normal excitement of the NBA season came with some trepidation this year as Breen’s beloved Mets were playing Game 2 of the World Series simultaneously.
“I knew everything worked out with the Division Series and the NLCS, but as soon as I saw the World Series I said, ‘Uh oh, I am going to be in trouble here,’ ” a disheartened Breen said the morning after Game 1, while pointing out the Mets lost the World Series openers in ’69 and ’86, as well.
