On March 26, 2009, former player agent Jeff Moorad became the Padres’ CEO, part of a dramatic realignment caused by the team’s sale. San Diego’s previous CEO, Sandy Alderson, stepped down as part of that realignment.
Exactly seven months later, Moorad, having fired longtime general manager Kevin Towers, selected Jed Hoyer to run his baseball operations.
“I think to a certain extent, you’re a product of your experiences,” Hoyer, now the Cubs’ GM, said Thursday at the conclusion of the GM Meetings in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Hoyer’s experiences included an overlap with Alderson’s work in San Diego that began quite promisingly and concluded rather discouragingly.
