During Brodie Van Wagenen’s introductory press conference Tuesday at Citi Field, the Mets’ new general manager was asked whether he’d have to have to sit out negotiations with his former clients — who include Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard — when they come up for arbitration.
Fittingly, Van Wagenen’s boss, Jeff Wilpon, took over.
“Let me answer that,’’ Wilpon said. “I had conversations with the Commissioner’s Office, the LRD [Labor Relations Department] and Tony Clark [executive director of the Players Association] directly and we have provisions in Brodie’s contract to deal with any conflicts of interest.
