Harper: With Gee out, time for Mets to welcome Matz

Noah Syndergaard to the bullpen? It might be a tantalizing thought for the Mets, considering their need for late-inning relief help as well as the much-discussed specter of innings limits, but right about now it’s about as likely as moving him to shortstop.

Syndergaard was that dazzling on Monday night, not only shutting down the hottest team in baseball but overmatching a Blue Jays offense that was averaging nearly eight runs a game while winning 11 straight.

Indeed, his 11 strikeouts in six innings were further proof of Syndergaard’s potential as a starter and though he didn’t get a decision, the Mets pulled out a 4-3 win in 11 innings to end the Jays’ streak.
