Matt Harvey pitched five brilliant innings against the Yankees on Sunday night … and still enhanced his new status as a villain to Mets fans.
Maybe the Mets need to re-think this plan they’ve hatched because this is no way to clinch a pennant race — big lead or not.
Theoretically their idea to have Harvey make truncated starts, rather than sit him for weeks at a time to meet the innings limit he wants enforced, worked nicely on Sunday night.
Harvey threw 77 pitches in a relatively easy five innings, allowing only one hit, and Terry Collins took him out, as all parties had agreed before the game.
