Gritty Mets Escape Trouble, Hold On To Beat Marlins 6-5

MIAMI, Fla. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good, but if you’re a fan of the New York Mets, you might be smiling because you’ve got talent and luck on your side.

Mets reliever Justin Wilson escaped jams in the eighth and ninth innings to earn his first save since 2017, and New York held on to beat the Miami Marlins 6-5.

Wilson wasn’t the only Met to sweat. The Marlins went 1-for-10 against Jason Vargas (1-0), who was hit hard but allowed only two runs in five innings in his season debut.
