Mets first baseman Adrian Gonzalez went 3-for-6 with a home run and five RBIs to break out of a slump while the rest of New York's infield combined for six hits and five RBIs in Sunday's 14-2 win over the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.
The Mets scored five runs in the seventh and five more in the eighth innings to turn a 4-2 lead into a 12-run rout, ending a nine-game road trip as they head home for a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves.
Gonzalez broke out of a 1-for-17 slump with a two-run double in the third inning and a three-run home run off Jordan Lyles in the seventh to break the game open.
