Geren leaving Mets to become Dodgers bench coach

Bench coach Bob Geren is leaving the Mets staff to become a bench coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to Ken Rosenthal (Dec. 2). The team has not confirmed the move.

Geren interviewed for LA's managerial opening before the job was given to Dave Roberts.

Geren will join Roberts' staff.

Geren, 54, managed the Athletics from 2007 to 2011, during which current Dodgers GM Farhan Zaidi was an assistant to Billy Beane. Geren joined Terry Collins's bench after the 2011 season.

Roberts, who spent 10 years in the majors, served as Padres' bench coach the past two seasons and managed one game on an interim basis after San Diego fired Black and named Pat Murphy interim manager.
