The New York Mets clearly botched the handling of Yoenis Cespedes and his injured quad, which he's been dealing with for nearly a month. Now, they'll pay a bigger price by playing without him for at least the next 14 games.
Cespedes first injured his quad on July 7, and has played in 14 of the team's past 21 games. During that stretch, he's started 12 times and hit .225 with one home run and seven RBIs.
Following eight days of rest, which included the All-Star break, Cespedes told reporters July 15 that the muscle still hurt and he was unsure when he'd be able to return to the lineup.
