With just two days left before Opening Day, Francisco Lindor’s self-imposed contract extension deadline, the Mets have offered the start shortstop Lindor a ten-year, $325 million contract, according to SNY. Lindor has countered the team’s offer with a twelve-year, $385 million contract, a deal that offers slightly less money per year but guarantees another two years, according to Newsday. The Mets have framed their offer as their “best and final offer.”
Lindor and Mets owner Steve Cohen met for dinner in Port St. Lucie over the weekend. Lindor has said he would not negotiate a contract extension during the regular season and that if he and the team could not agree to terms before the season began, he would test free agency following the season.
