When the New York Mets were beaten by the Miami Marlins for the second consecutive night and shut out for the first time since July 23rd on Wednesday, many fans, including myself, began to panic. The Mets that played the last two nights did not resemble the Mets that had just won eight in a row including back to back sweeps of Washington and Atlanta. And on top of this, the Nationals win in Philadelphia also meant that for the second straight night, the Nationals gained a game on the Mets in the standings. Yes, it seemed like déjà vu all over again.
