Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura and former major league infielder Andy Marte were killed in separate car accidents in the Dominican Republic this weekend, according to multiple media reports.
Ventura, 25, was the loser in the Mets' lone victory in the 2015 World Series, giving up five runs and seven hits (including home runs to David Wright and Curtis Granderson) in 3 1/3 innings of the Mets' 9-3 win in Game 3 at Citi Field. In five postseason games in 2015 he had a 6.43 ERA and did not earn a win.
Ventura, whose accident occured early Sunday, was twice named to the All-Star Futures Game.
