Yasmani Grandal was unlikely to end up with the Mets, and now Wilson Ramos’ starting job appears officially safe.
Grandal signed a four-year, $73 million deal with the Chicago White Sox on Thursday as the biggest MLB free agency deal of the offseason thus far. The 31-year-old catcher was an All-Star for the Brewers in 2019, slashing .246/.380/.468 with 28 homers and 77 RBIs across a career-high 632 plate appearances.
The Mets offered Grandal a four-year, $60 million deal last offseason, but Grandal rejected it, betting on himself with a one-year, $18.25 million contract.
