PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — It was still dark when Dan Warthen emerged from the Mets’ spring training complex around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday. He wore a track suit and sneakers and had a Fitbit watch on his right hand. Spring training was winding down, and Warthen thought he should spend his morning walk picking up a treat for the coaches’ room, something that everyone would enjoy.
“Today I’m going to go to Walmart,” he said. “I’ve got to get some Oreos.”
